Mr. Bush “Gonna Win” Kult Records
Superior male vocal power can be found on the opening mix of Mr. Bush’s, “You’re Gonna Win” produced by the one and only Mantronik on KULT. Soulful, it’s a real grower that deserves attention. Over on the flip there’s a deep b-line filtered house feast with vocal refrains and one for the funksters. With mixes from Danny Morales and Johan Brunkvist can’t attribute the credits to each mix as no imo, and rounding this strong set off is the spoken-vocal deep n’ vibes b-line journey track that should see maximum play on the floors. One to watch-

MR. Bush “You’re Gonna Win” Kult Records

MR. Bush “You’re Gonna Win” Kult Records
This follow up to the Kurtis Mantronik produced “Touch Me Right” is a sure fire winner, a twirling garage feast that builds upon a familiar vocal snip (from Boris Dlugosch’s “Keep Pushin”) for an energetic, melodic romp around the dancefloor. The A side Johan Brunkvist produced Vocal is the bomb, a bright, airy mix that focuses squarely on Bush’s soulful vox and some rather swift gritty beats (130 BPM), while Danny “Buddah” Morales’ Cab Fare Mental Dub is a darker, minimalistic affair that omits the organ and vocals of his B side main vocal mix for a very stripped down sound (125 BPM). That flip side vocal, the Gotta Go To London mix, works a prominent Hammond organ line over a bubbly bass bump and a heavy thumping’ kick, and distorts the vocal harmony for a weird, dark feel that’s a bit trippy while still being very garage-rooted (125 BPM). Lastly, the Shade Tronik in the Light Mix takes an interesting spoken-word direction, with Bush’s deep, didactic rant prominently featured over Brunkvist’s classic production in the background (130 BPM). It’s a very eclectic package of mixes, but all are solid and worth a good listen. I favor the A1 and the B2. -

MR. Bush “You’re Gonna Win” Kult Records
Kult has a few of quality releases out now, one of the most notable being Mr. Bush’s “Gonna Win.” Coming across like a toned-down Byron Stingily, Mr. Bush waxes positively over a garage production full of pumping bass, soulful organ riffs and solid beats. Danny “Buddah” Morales’ pair of mixes are both more late-night, more deep garage in tone. The B side’s second mix, the Shade Tronik, in the Light Mix, features an almost drag-track-styled spoken vocal over the now--familiar arrangement of the original mix (produced by Johan Brunkvist). Mr. Bush goes on a rampage here, breaking it down on what it really means to win. “I know you ain’t got no fear of success,” Mr. Bush bellows late in the track, and the tone in his voice suggests that you’d better not disagree with him. A refreshingly different spin on the ever popular uplifting song.

MR. Bush “You’re Gonna Win” Kult Records
Mr. Bush has a serious predilection for layered vocals and storming melodies. Listen to his past projects, including “Touch Me Right,” with Kurtis Mantronik at the helm, for a prime example of what this man is capable of. This prolific singer/songwriter/producer gets the season off to a flying start with “Gonna Win,” a garage feast that has the mark of Bush imprinted all over it. The Bush-penned track is produced by keyboard wizard, Johan Brunkvist, who is best known for his keyboard work on cuts by Todd Terry, Benji Candelario and Tony Humphries. “Gonna Win” is a twirly garage offering that’s bright, airy and beautifully melodic, with a pumping percussive backdrop that gives it a solid backbone. Danny ‘Buddah’ Morales’ provides two perfectly crafted mixes that should further confirm why he will no doubt be a sought-after remixer in the coming months. Side A. features Buddah’s “Cab Fare Mental,” a minimal instrumental version of his vocal remix. This version omits the organ and vocals for a down and dirty bare bones outing that smacks of 5am dance floor fodder. Humorously titled Featured on Side B. the “Gatta Go To London Mix,” Buddah’s main vocal, distorts the vocal harmonies, which shimmy round a funk bass line, a Hammond organ solo and thumping kick. Slamming and top notch, a remix that goes against the grain. The 12” concludes with the cryptically titled “Shade Tronik in the Light Mix,” which features a spine-tingling diatribe to the shadier variety of club denizens. The combination of Bush’s dark spoken word and Brunkvist’s flawless production is the stuff that dreams are made of. “Gonna Win” is an essential crowd pleaser with eclectic mixes to cater to all your whims.
