Tete Jnr & The Kaananites are one of the new rising
stars from Nigeria.
Tete Jnr. and the kannanities Band are a fussion of
the most colourful and rich cultural/Traditional as
well as modern music performance. Tete Jnr. & the
Kannanities Band originates a distinct Brand of music
which is reffered to as JHOKOMBA, this is a fusion of
the most creative elements of music diversity
involving Jazz, Highlife, Konkoma, Mbaya, Itembe,
Abinsi etc. Achieved through a predominant use of E!
fik traditional percussions popular amongst the Efik
People of Cross River state in South Easthern Nigeria.
Tete Jnr was Born on 23rd day of November 1965, Father
was a Retired Snr. Police Officer, Mother a Retired
Senior Nursing Sister. Godfrey Tete Jnr. Is the last
Child in the Family of Six Boys & One Girl. His early
interest in Music was as a result of his Father’s
singing prowess even as a police officer and his
exposure to records of Nat King Cole, Frank Sinatra,
Louis Amstrong, Peggy Lee, James Brown and ! lots more
which were often played in the House. He Joined the
School Choir in his Secondary School Days at Methodist
Boys High School Oron, Akwa-Ibom State in Nigeria and
later Rose to become the School’s Choir Master.
His interest in Musical Instrument started during one
of his Holidays when he came home to meet a piano in
the Parlour, Bought by his Father. He started to learn
how to play by Ear based on his knowledge of SOL-FAS
gained during his Choir experience.
In 1988 Tete Jnr. as he is known in Music Circle,
started his musical career at crystal park Hotel in
Aba, Abia State Nigeria as the keyboardist of the
In-House Band. From there he moved to port-Harcourt
where he Played with the spice JAZZ Band led by Dr.
Sotiris Papadopolous. He was also inspired by other
Keyboardists such as :- Etien T.Boy, Johnny Wood and
the likes of them.
By 1991 Tete Jnr. Moved to Lagos to have a real of the
Music Industry and to actualize his dream of being a
recorded Act.
He was Introduced to Lemmy Jackson (The Quincy Jones
of Nigeria.) as he was then tagged and started a
Career in Production and Sound Engineering. From there
he met and worked with Front Line Artistes in Nigeria
then such as Orits Wilikie, Funmi Adams, Mandators,
Segun Awe, Chris Mba, Daniel Wilson, Ras Kimono, Majek
Fashek just to mention a few.
By 1998 Tete Jnr. Stated playing at the Sheraton Hotel
& Towers Lobby with His small Band (A QUARTET). By
2002 Tete Jnr. Opened his rehearsal studio and Also
his Mini recording studio where he sta! rted working
on his debut effort. –Fat – Owo.
At this time he was now playing at the Foods of Sun
Restaurant as a Pianist at Eko Le Meridien Hotels,
Victoria Island Lagos from 2002-2003.
His debut CD-Fat Owo is currently enjoying Airplay
after its presentation on the 14th of December, 2003 !
at the Lagos Hilton Hotel.
Tete Jnr's dream is to take this Unique form of Music
to the rest of the world and a platter of Gold. The
world has seen the rest but JHAKOMBA is the best yet
to been seen.
TETE JNR. Is married to Mary and the! y have three
lovely Kids ANITA-13years, WINIFRED 11Years and MOSES
5 Years. Tete loves Music, Movies, Travelling,
Swimming.
