Slimey Things are an experimental pop/ sci-fi rock
band currently active within the greater Sydney area.
With an energetic and fun stage show, Slimey Things
have received much acclaim as one of the most unique
acts in Sydney.
The band has existed in various forms for over 5
years, performing extensively around Sydney and the
greater Sydney area. Over this time their sound has
developed and evolved into an energetic blend of many
styles: catchy pop, retro-futuristic rock, Zappa-esque
metal ... & other zany stuff.
Recently JJJ radio host and Sydney underground legend
Jay Katz, gave their song "Help! I'm in the 80s"
airplay. Their music has also received radioplay on
Sydney's FBI radio.
Slimey Things have performed to crowd sizes ranging
from 30 (early on) to 1000 including Thaldorians from
planet Thaldor. (our most recent gigs). They have
supported and played with such acts as Darth Vegas
(Michael Lira- ex Vicious Hairy Mary), Rica Tetas, Jat
Katz, Panda and many more.
The story of the Slime is unfolding now .....and you
will soon feel the oozing sounds of the Sci Fi pop
phenomenon ... known only as the Slimey Things out on

ABOUT THE BAND MEMBERS
Nick Soole - Voice/ Guitar
Nick Soole has been perfroming in bands (as a vocalist
and guitarist), and composing music for ten years. He
is the founder of Slimey Things, the enigmatic
frontman and sole composer/ lyricist of the band. He
is also the instigator of Sydney's Pseudo-Pop
movement- an underground experimental pop
collective.
After attending various conservatorium acces centre
courses in music theory, he gained entry to a Bachelor
of Arts (Music) degree at UWS, where he majored in
20th century composition. Nick Soole graduated from
university in 2002 and now works as a freelance
composer and music teacher.
Nick Soole has worked and studied with such artists as
Oren Ambarchi (What is Music?) and Danny Heifetz (Mr
Bungle).
Chris Toland - Keys/ Synth
Chris Toland has been playing piano for twenty years,
initially learning classical, but moving into popular
styles and jazz music in his teens. He was a child
chorister in several operas for the Australian Opera
and has a strong vocal harmony background. He joined
Slimey Things in June 1999 as the keyboard player, and
also contributes to arrangements and harmonies. In
2002 Chris graduated from UWS with a Bachelor of Arts
(music) degree, majoring in performance. He now
teaches guitar and keyboard as well as being a
co-conspirator in the Slimey Things musical
onslaught.
Matthew Ward – Drums/ Percussion
Matthew Ward has been playing drumset and percussion
in various ensembles for10 years. He has studied music
with Warren Trout, Tony Azzapardi, Paul Josephand at
UWS. He has performed with such artists as Bob
Spencer, Mahammoud Bangora, Panda, Denis Gonzales,
Michael Henry, Tarik Sawires and Nat Nyke. He
facilitates African-style drum workshops with
"Drumcafe Australia" for corporate clientele. He has
toured internationally with a Latin steelpan
ensemble.
Tristan Baker – Laptop/ Guitar
Tristan, 23 has been playing, writing and performing
music for most of his life. Starting guitar lessons at
6 years old and being the son rock music journalist
appeared to be a good combination early in life for a
growing talent.Tristan played guitar in various bands
through high school, and eventually formed the band
'airbag' in 97, with all but one members being school
mates. 'airbag' Recorded music with Producer 'Charles
Fisher', and later with 'Paul McKercher' at Sony
studio's.
Tristan Studied music at The University of Western
Sydney from 1999 to 2002 where he obtained his
'Bachelor of Arts, Music (Honours) and formed musical
friendships with members of Slimey things. Tristan
studied a double major consisting of Music Technology
and Composition, both areas of great interest to him.
Since high school and throughout Uni Tristan developed
an interest Digital technology and Macintosh computers
as musical instruments and musical tools. Tristans
honours year at UWS focused on music technology, for
which he produced an 18minute short film on DVD,
including a 5.1 surround soundtrack.
Tristan currently works as a freelance composer,
multimedia and sound designer and engineer.
In Slimey things Tristan explores the sonic boundaries
of music and sound with live manipulation, sequencing
and sampling (as well as a little guitar playing )
Andrew Mortensen - Bass
Andrew Mortensen has been performing music from a very
young age. He performed in a number of school concerts
including events at The Opera House
In his HSC he came 2nd in 2Unit Music. Since
completing high school, he has performed with a number
of highly respected Sydney musicians, filling in for
numerous bass players
Since picking up the bass, he has studied with Justin
DiLeo (What Is Hip?), Hal Tupaea (Little River Band),
Victor Rounds (James Morrison) & Vito Portolesi (Ice
House, Mighty Reapers)
With various groups & musicians he has performed at a
number of festivals & high-profile venues including
The Iguana Bar, The Basement, Harbour View Hotel,
Narooma & Central Coast festivals,
During his musical career, so far of 7 years, Andrew
has performed with: Rob Smith - The Cure (UK), Robbie
Williams (UK), Chris Cain (USA), Dave Hole (US/AUS),
Danny Heifetz - Mr Bungle (USA), Mark Sallings (USA),
Harry Brus - Renée Gayer (AUS), Adam Pringle Band, The
Mighty Reapers, The Back-Sliders, Ray Beadle, Steve
Clark - Died Pretty (AUS) & many more...
Ian Petersie – Alto & Baritone Saxophone
Ian has toured the world playing his saxophone. His
most recent tour was to New York City where he played
at CBJB's and The Knitting Factory with Australian
band 'Citizen Dog'. Ian has a music degree from the
University of Western Sydney and is a sought after
performer, playing concurrently in six different
bands. Ian has appeared on the 'Sunrise' program and
claims to have played in every R.S.L and Leagues club
in the Sydney's outer west.
