Follow the trail of screaming, giggling girls and you
will find Josh, the latest teen pop singer to thrill
the young female population in upstate New York.
Sporting model good looks, and a strong, lyrical
style, Josh is set to burst onto the music scene with
the spring 2003 release of his first album, "Good To
Be Me."
Born and raised in Dansville, NY, Josh became
interested in the arts in grammar school, often
writing and directing plays that the entire school
would trek to the auditorium to observe. "I was always
entertaining my peers in some way, shape or form" Josh
explains. While in high school, Josh turned his
attention to the performance side of theatre, and was
cast as the lead in school productions of "Robin Hood:
Men in Tights," and "The Nutcracker." Having been
bitten by the music bug, Josh recorded an acapella
version of O-town’s "All or Nothing" and began making
the rounds of local Rochester music scene.
Aaron Sain, a resident producer for Curb Records, who
has produced such stars as the Backstreet Boys, Plus
One, and Kaci Cassidy, contributed to Josh’s album by
writing and producing Too Much, Yeah!, Quiere Mor and
Good To Be Me. Josh also had the chance to work with
Tony Smith who was partners with David Foster for
twenty years before moving to Nashville to start his
own studio. Tony and his partner Kent produced In My
Pocket, Teach Me to Dance, Hollywood, and The Night
Belongs to Us as well as jazzed up versions of “Crazy
Horses” originally by The Osmond’s and “Hit Me with
Your Best Shot” by Pat Benetar.
“JOSH”, is full of heart-felt melodies, heavy dance
grooves, and some good old fashion rock n roll.
"Working with Tony and Aaron is quite an experience,
they are so passionate about their work, and it’s nice
to work with such dedicated people" Josh explains. "I
was never really aware of the amount of work that goes
into making an album: if I’ve learned anything through
this process it would be that you must have
patience.
May 2002 found Josh on a Mall Tour of Upstate New
York. The tour, which began at Walden Galleria in
Buffalo, featured a live performance of 5 - 6 songs,
and dance segments choreographed by veterans Summer
Torrance (Genuine) and Eddie Downing.
This consummate performer was given an opportunity so
show his mettle when a brief but violent thunder storm
short-circuited the sound equipment during a sold-out
performance at Dansville Middle School. Not once...but
twice! Josh muses: "I was really anxious to get out
there and show everyone what I’m all about...so the
second time the equipment short circuited I just
decided to continue with the show. The equipment was
repaired by the third song, but it took another 20
minutes before I could continue...the crowd was
screaming and clapping...it was crazy and I loved
every minute of it!" The tour culminated with a live
performance on Rochester’s ABC affiliate, WOKR.
