Think massive amplification, screaming loud distorted guitar riffs, simple beats but pounding rhythms. Led Zeppelin was arguably the first true heavy metal band, but this genre spawned many other bands such as the Kinks, the Who, Jimi Hendrix, Cream, and the Jeff Beck Group.
Largely a British creation, heavy metal is one of the most popular forms of rock, enjoying its best time in the charts in the 80’s. In more modern times, with lighting quick guitar riffs and solos, bands such as Metalica and Iron Maiden pushed it more mainstream. These days Heavy and New Metal have a huge underground following, but while the music gets more diverse it stays loud! One thing is for sure, metal certainly isn’t for those with a weak heart or sensitive hearing!
