Through all the many subgenres of Dance there is one thing in common – rhythm. From the fast to the slow it's all about the beat. Dance music covers a multitude of sins, from the old school sound of Acid House, through the Rave era, to the House, Techno, Drum and Bass, Breakbeat and Ambient styles that you hear in clubs today. As the name suggests, the music is for people who want to party, like a rhythm, bass line or a track full of funky energy.
Kick starting the early 80’s rave scene through to the New York Underground house sound scene. Dance is the genre that also touches on Drum and Bass, Gabba, Nu Energy, Hard Trance, and other derivatives such as Ambient and Chillout to name a few.
Dance has also spurned the DJ as an international superstar, from early pioneers such as Tony Humphries and David Morales on the house scene, through to Paul Oakenfold, Seb Fontaine, Carl Cox, Judge Jules, Pete Tong, Eric Morrillo - just a few of the global superstars that DJ with their own sound all over the planet. Dance music is unique in this respect as it is the only genre where the people playing the tunes can gain more recognition than those who produced them in the first place.
