What’s it about then?
Just who exactly are the evildoers on this planet? Written after the 2001 Federal Election. Actually this tune is the first song I wrote after I quit bands, brought a computer, borrowed a Nord modular synthesizer and decided to do my own thing. A relic c.1998. It’s dark and brooding and a bit of a Bjork rip off really I suppose. I was well into Bjork back then. I loved the watery sounds that the Nord Modular synth could make and I liked the weird violin sound it had too. I improvised the intro and the song was built from bits of loops I cut up from long takes of Nord sounds. I brought a drum sample CD and loaded the snare, hi hat and kick drum sounds into the audio tracks and placed them neatly to line up with beats and bars. If you had tried to explain to me what MIDI and a sampler were back then I would not have understood what the fuck you were talking about…
Only later did the idea that this music could bring to mind the onslaught of an unstoppable evil force of crushing right wing ideology take root in my mind. Can you see the banners of the despots waving above the carnage?
