Chris Wilson is a guitar-playing singer from Sydney
who fell in love with music for the first time at age
15. Though he started playing guitar at that age, he
didn’t begin singing until 6 years later, at the age
of 21. Going in and out of original bands in his teens
he eventually became disillusioned and decided that if
he was going to make a living out of music, and
achieve his dreams of creating great music, he needed
to have more control over the situation he was in, so
he began to sing.
It was around this time he joined the Pearl Jam Show
for the purpose of gigging regularly and to build his
confidence as a performer. Whilst he was in the cover
show he began playing in between the bands sets
performing songs he had written solo and also at Open
Mic Nights around town.
Early 2005 he decided after 50 shows with the cover
act the time had come for him to leave and begin
playing more solo shows and focus all his energies
into his solo career.
Upon leaving the cover show he released ‘Grace To
Begin’ his debut EP, and launched it at the The Brass
Monkey to a sell out crowd in late June. From the
connections and experience he had gained pursuing solo
gigs whilst he was still in the cover show he started
getting more gigs around the city and slowly but
surely, finding more fans.
As Chris says in his own words:
“I'm not going to lie and say I just want to make a
living out of this. At the ground level of what I am
trying to do I do, but I want the see the view from
the top floor, I want to change peoples lives. I want
to add something to their lives that wasn't there
before. I know there's music I've listened to that has
done that to me, and I want to do that to other
people. I want to create music that stays with people.
Things happen slowly, but each time I play I sell
about 2 or 3 cds and get a couple more email address
for my mailing list. I really just want to be the kind
of person who can cherish wherever they are at in
their lives and just enjoy that time for what it is,
because I’ve learnt the hard way that doing what you
want with your life can take a long time to come to
fruition, you just have to enjoy the journey. I work
extremely hard and with an unrelenting passion for
what I do, and though the lines blur pretty regularly,
I know in my heart my life is more important than
anything I could ever do with it.”
