Andy Roberts began his DJ career back in
1987, playing parties in and around
suburban Toronto, Canada. At thetender age of 16, he
hit Toronto’s downtown scene with
a bang. Discovered by the legendary Mitch Winthrop,
Andy was invited to be a weekly guest on the
legendary "Rhythm Method Radio Show" on
105.5. This led to regular DJappearances
in Toronto’s thriving warehouse scene
alongside Mitch and another legendary Toronto
DJ Dave Campbell (Da mix, Muchmusic). While Andy
became a regular fixture on
Mitch’s Show he also linked up with Producer/DJ duo
Dino & Terry (Crash Records/Vinylpeace) for a
few parties. As the warehouse scene slowed
down, Andy began playing in the city’s
burgeoning rave scene, leaving an imprint on many a
“house” room. After spinning for most of
Toronto’s rave companies, Andy made his foray
into the club world nailing residencies at such hot
clubs as Buzz, The Guverment (Orange
Room), and Industry. During this time Andy
was resident DJ on CKLN 88.1’s “Queer Noises” radio
show. Shortly thereafter, Andy began his
unprecedented four year residency
Hard and Soul Sunday Religion at the Living Room
(1997-2001). In early 1999 Andy landed a mix
show aptly named the “Vinyl Frontier” on
Internet upstart 1groove.com Saturday Nights from
10pm-12am. Most recently Andy has held
lengthy residencies at Mad Bar, and Element.
In the early spring of 2002 Andy plans to
continue his Sunday Tradition. Never one to
limit himself to one form of media, Andy has also been
the house writer for Canadian Urban Magazine
Peace for over four years. While at Peace
Magazine, Andy has interviewed such house dignitaries
as Erick Morillo, Cajmere (Green Velvet) and
most recently Rhinocerose. Andy’s
contributions to Peace Magazine also included Record
Reviews, artist profiles, as well as
chronicling the current state of House Music.While all
of that was going on, Andy began his
production career, releasing his first EP
on Richie Hawtin and John Aquaviva’s Definitive
imprint titled “AR volume 1”. Which Scotland.
He then went on to produce for Kult Records
out of New York, fathering Kult classics "Big Daddy
Vibes" and "Vinyl Frontiers" among many
others. At around the same time Andy produced
"Rhodes Scholar", "Mixed Signals" and "Black
Belt Roberts" EP’s on Dino & Terry’s Crash
and Vinylpeace imprints. He also linked up with the
Stickmen to release one of his best
selling records "Mr. Roberts Neighborhood",
on their highly successful Aquarius label, which
received regular airplay on BBC’s
Radio 1 for six months. Recognized internationally as
one of Canada's top house DJ’s and
producers Andy has remixed Mambo, Mambo, Mambo’s
rendition of Tito Puente’s “Ran Kan Kan” as
well as doing remixes for Hollis P. Monroe
and The People Movers on Stickmen Records. Andy has
most recently completed remixes for
Miguel Graca, Roy Davis Jr., and Bran Van
3000 feat. Curtis Mayfield. Andy’s productions have
been charted in such magazines as Mixmag,
Muzik, Blues and Soul, Discoid (Italy) and
DJ magazine, and his music is played by the
world’s leading house DJ’
